Malaysia's Best 11?

I followed the Malaysian League closely when I was in primary school till early secondary. I followed Selangor but I kinda liked the KL team in the late 80s and early 90s. For me, those were the best days of my life, going to stadiums (Merdeka, Cheras, Shah Alam, Kubu, Paroi and the old Dato Sheikh Ahmad Stadium in my dad's home town in Perlis). I reckon we had some good players back then but unfortunately most of them were banned coz of bribery. Here are my 11 best players during that time. I'll throw in some subs as well for that matter. Oh, Ball-ocks!

  1. Rashid Hassan - KL - Reliable gk. Remembered him fondly for denying Tony Cottee and Greame Sharpe of Everton in the Malaysia-Everton friendly in 1990.
  2. Razip Ismail - KL - Leader at Right back - A great leader and someone who could run non stop for 90 mins
  3. A Jayakhantan - SEL- Thunderous Left back. Who could forget those chopstick legs daunting up and down the flanks? Has a thunderous left foot and can score goals.
  4. Lee Kin Hong - KED - Centre back. He is one cool lad. Can head, can kick and can lead.
  5. Zaid Jamil - KL and SEL- Centre back. The late Zaid is known for his coolness but he has a secret weapon, his pace.
  6. P. Ravindran - PRK- LM- This short man reminds me of Ruel Fox.
  7. Shahrin Majid - SEL and KL - RM- Very fast, very skillfull.
  8. Azizol Abu Hanifah - PRK- What a player! Its a shame he had to cut short his footballing carrer, otherwise he could be the man leading Malaysia to greater heights
  9. Dollah Salleh - Johor and SEL - ST - Prolific and very intelligent.
  10. Matlan Marjan - Sabah - ST - for a player to score 2 goals against a full England team, he should be in the first 11
  11. Yap Wai Loon - KL and Sabah - In the hole - Skillfull and crafty.
Subs -

  1. Khairul Azman - Pahang and Sabah - GK
  2. Tang Siew Seng - KL - CB/RB
  3. Arifin Osman - Tganu - MF/ST
  4. Hashim Mustapha - KEL- ST
  5. Khalid Shahdan - JHR- MF
  6. E Elenggovan - PRK- MF
  7. Khan Hung Meng - SEL - MF
  8. Lim Teong Kim - KL- MF
  9. Reman Regunathan - Sel- RB/LB
  10. Zainal Abidin Hassan - Sel and Pahang - ST
